TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The 2025 President's Cup will kick off on July 6, 2025. A total of six teams will participate.
PSSI Chairman Erick Thohir says the seventh edition of this preseason tournament is trying a different formula. "We are inviting to appreciate when there are several international clubs that can also help develop the quality of Indonesian national team players," he said at a press conference at Menara Reksadana, Central Jakarta on Friday, June 13, 2025.
Erick stated that this year's President's Cup will still invite the champions of Liga 1 and the previous President's Cup winner. Out of the six teams, four are from Indonesia: Persib Bandung, Dewa United, Arema Malang, and the Indonesian All Stars League. "From foreign clubs, we have invited Port FC from Thailand and Oxford United," he said.
Port FC is a club currently played by Indonesian player Asnawi Mangkualam. In Oxford United, there are also Indonesian national team players Ole Romeny and Marselino Ferdinan in the squad of the second-tier English League club.
The top two clubs of the 2024-2025 Liga 1, Persib Bandung and Dewa United, will be participating as Indonesian representatives. "But this league also needs to bring out new stars in the future. That's why there is a uniqueness, the Indonesian All Stars League," he said.
Chairman of the Organizing Committee Harsiwi Achmad said his team will work to run this tournament according to the overall framework of the President's Cup, which has reached its seventh edition. "For the official broadcaster of the 2025 President's Cup, it will remain with the EMTEK group, which will be broadcast live on Indosiar and Vidio," he said.
The 2025 President's Cup marks the first edition to feature foreign clubs. The number of teams in this edition is confirmed to be the least compared to previous editions. The first edition in 2015 featured 16 participating teams, which increased to 20 teams in the second (2017), third (2018), and fourth (2019) editions. It then decreased to 18 teams in the fifth edition (2022) and further to eight teams in the latest edition (2024).
Arema FC will play again in this seventh edition. The Singo Edan team is the most successful as they have won the tournament four times in 2017, 2019, 2022, and 2024.
