7 Smart Tips for Choosing the Perfect Hotel for Your Vacation

5 hours ago 1

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - During a holiday, selecting a hotel or accommodation is one of the expenses that can consume a significant portion of your budget. Therefore, choosing a hotel that suits your needs without breaking the bank is crucial. A hotel is not just a place to rest after a day of activities, but also serves to refresh and rejuvenate. Comfort, convenience, and the cost of the hotel need to be balanced.

Harshal Dilwali, the director and CEO of Clarissa Resorts in India, shared seven tips on how to book hotel rooms wisely, as reported by the Hindustan Times.

1. Know the facilities and policies of the hotel

Many travelers believe booking a hotel in advance can result in cheaper rates. However, there are many factors to consider besides the price. Some considerations include whether breakfast is included, whether the location is easily accessible on foot to important city attractions, and whether the reservation is refundable. If necessary, call the hotel to ensure these details.

2. Compare prices on different platforms and websites

Hotel bookings can be made directly or through holiday platforms. Although booking through an app is fine, it's advisable to check the hotel's website and contact them by phone. Hotels may offer incentives for travelers to book directly, such as free room upgrades, waived service fees, and early check-in.

3. Align with your travel plans

A beachfront suite may look gorgeous on the internet, but if your plan involves full-day sightseeing, is it worth paying a higher price without enjoying the facilities and scenery? If planning a lot of activities, prioritize comfort and location over luxury.

4. Avoid the traps of popular destinations

Popular areas like beaches, downtown, or hilltops are usually in high demand and come with high prices. However, these places are often noisy and crowded. Consider finding accommodations slightly away from the hustle and bustle, nearby but quieter, usually at a much more affordable rate. In many cities and holiday destinations, well-maintained places are only a 10-15 minute drive away.

5. Look for additional facilities

Always read the terms, whether traveling during peak season or off-peak, to avoid unexpected costs. For example, early check-in fees, parking fees, service charges, or a mandatory dinner during a festival. If these are not specified, inquire and seek clear clarification before arrival.

6. Read reviews

Internet reviews can be both positive and negative. The key is to look for consistency.
If you notice multiple mentions of poor Wi-Fi, noisy surroundings, or mediocre breakfast, it's likely credible. Do not overly rely on extreme ratings, as every hotel will have one reviewer who rates it poorly and another who highly praises it. Focus on reviews from middle ground reviewers as they are often more balanced and specific.

7. Use a map

Never fully trust promotions like "only 5 minutes from the city center." Open a map and recheck the distance and availability of various modes of transportation, especially if using public transport or planning to walk from the hotel to your destination. Also, check for nearby essentials such as grocery stores and eateries.
