TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The iconic monument of India, Taj Mahal, is equipped with an anti-drone system to counter potential aerial threats. This decision comes after the exchange of fire between India and Pakistan, as a result of the incident in Pahalgam, Kashmir. At that time, Taj Mahal was protected by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and the Uttar Pradesh Police.
Syed Areeb Ahmed, the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), said that the police personnel are being trained to use this new technology layer, which will be added to Taj Mahal's security effectively. "This anti-drone system is to be installed, once received, within the Taj Mahal complex in the near future for which 15 days’ training is underway," he said as quoted from Hindustan Times.
Ahmed added that this anti-drone system will have a range of 7 to 8 kilometers to detect aerial threats posed by drones. "But will be mainly effective within a 200-meter radius around the main dome of the Taj Mahal," he said.
This system will work by disrupting the communication signals of unauthorized drones entering restricted areas, effectively disabling them through a "soft kill" method rather than physically destroying them. In addition to the police, a special response team is also being trained to handle drone-related incidents. This team will not only neutralize aerial threats but also identify the drone launch points and secure the landing locations after the drone is brought down.
World Heritage Site
Taj Mahal is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Quoting the organization's website, the building is located on the right bank of the Yamuna River in a nearly 17-hectare Mughal garden, in the Agra District of Uttar Pradesh. Its construction began in 1632 and was completed in 1653.
The white marble structure is a symbol of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan's love for his wife, Mumtaz Mahal, who died after giving birth to their son. In addition to the mausoleum, there is also a mosque, guest house, and the main gateway to the south, outer courtyards, and cloisters.
Taj Mahal holds cultural and historical significance. But it is renowned for its architectural beauty, intricate craftsmanship, and symbolic representation of eternal love, attracting millions of visitors each year. It is no wonder that the local government has built an advanced security system to protect it from various threats.
