Dubai's Burj Al Arab Hit by Minor Fire From Drone Debris

11 hours ago 4

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The luxury Burj Al Arab hotel in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, has become a target of a drone attack amid the escalating conflict in the Middle East. Authorities confirmed that a drone was successfully intercepted before the incident, according to a report by Gulf News on March 1, 2026, citing an announcement from the Dubai Media Office on X. However, the debris caused a small fire on the outer facade of the Burj Al Arab, which was quickly extinguished.

The Civil Defense team promptly responded and brought the situation under control. There were no reported injuries.

The Burj Al Arab is a luxury hotel and restaurant that stands majestically on Jumeirah Beach. The sail-shaped building has become one of the most famous landmarks in the world and a symbol of Dubai's extravagance. Standing on an artificial island about 280 meters from the shoreline, the hotel reaches a height of 321 meters. Due to its opulence, the property is often referred to as a "seven-star" hotel, although it is officially rated as five-star.

The Burj Al Arab is also known for its personalized service and exclusive facilities, ranging from two-story suites with 24-hour butler service to luxurious restaurants with breathtaking sea views. One of the most famous is Al Mahara, a restaurant featuring a giant aquarium that surrounds the dining area.

Its presence has positioned the hotel not just as a place to stay, but as a distinct tourist destination that reinforces Dubai's image as a city synonymous with luxury and world-class architectural ambition.

Tensions in the Middle East escalated after the United States and Israel launched a military strike on Iran, which was claimed to be an effort to stop nuclear and military threats from Tehran. Iran retaliated by firing missiles and drones at Israel and U.S. military bases in several Gulf countries.

In addition to the Burj Al Arab, the attack also impacted Dubai International Airport. Four people were reported injured, and the airport lounge suffered damage.
