Fete de la Musique Returns to Indonesia with Free Concerts Across Major Cities

5 hours ago 3

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - As the school year concludes and the 2025 class break approaches, the annual Fête de la Musique is once again set to enliven cities across Indonesia. Originating from France, this music festival brings live performances to open and inclusive public spaces, fostering a spirit of community and celebration.

Since its inception by the French Ministry of Culture in 1982, Fête de la Musique has evolved into a global tradition, celebrated every June 21 to mark the arrival of summer with music accessible to all.

In Indonesia, the seasonal shift might hold less significance, but the essence of celebration, togetherness, and joy remains profoundly relevant. The Institut français d’Indonésie (IFI) champions this vibrant and inclusive spirit of Fête de la Musique by organizing a series of free, public music performances from June 21 to June 26, 2025.

Jakarta Hosts Main Celebrations

On June 21, Jakarta will serve as a central hub for the festivities, featuring performances at two prominent locations:

  • Bundaran HI MRT Station will showcase a special appearance by Adhitia Sofyan, a renowned local musician celebrated for his acoustic melodies.

  • The Jalan Lada area in Kota Tua (in front of Beos Station) will host Ko Shin Moon, an electronic duo from France. This acclaimed act uniquely blends folk music, space disco, and oriental pop, incorporating traditional instruments such as the saz, oud, and sitar. Winners of the 2020 Prix Société Ricard Live Music, Ko Shin Moon have graced numerous international festivals.

Ko Shin Moon Embarks on Indonesia Tour

Following their performance in South Korea, Ko Shin Moon is slated to tour four major Indonesian cities:

  • Jakarta – June 21 (Kota Tua)
  • Bandung – June 22 (NuArt Sculpture Park), performing alongside local acts Banda Neira and Rangkai during a "Family Days Out" themed event.
  • Yogyakarta – June 24 (JNM Bloc, in collaboration with ArtJog)
  • Surabaya – June 26 (Soirée, rooftop bar at Four Points Pakuwon Surabaya)

Festivities Extend to Other Cities

Yogyakarta will host Fête de la Musique across two days: June 21 at the IFI Yogyakarta Auditorium, and June 24 at JNM Bloc.

Surabaya will also feature two sessions: June 21 at the IFI Surabaya (AJBS) courtyard, and June 26 at Soirée, Four Points Pakuwon.

Additionally, celebrations are planned for Medan, Makassar, and Denpasar, each featuring unique local formats and collaborations, ensuring the festival's widespread reach and diverse appeal.

Special Karaoke Night in Jakarta

As an exciting part of the Jakarta lineup, residents and visitors are invited to a Soirée Karaoke event. This lively session will take place at Mediatek IFI Thamrin on June 24, 2025, at 6:30 PM local time. It offers a fun opportunity to sing along and enjoy a relaxed atmosphere.
