TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Foreign Minister, Sugiono, received an honorary visit from the Ambassador of Norway to Indonesia, Rut Kruger Giverin, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) office on Wednesday, June 4, 2025. Sugiono and Giverin discussed various efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation, particularly in economic and environmental sectors.
As reported in the MoFA official release, Sugiono and Giverin discussed the well-established cooperation in the field of the environment and climate change, including the handling of marine litter.
The two diplomats also discussed the potential for boosting the trade and investment cooperation between Indonesia and Norway through the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement mechanism between Indonesia and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), of which Norway is a member.
In the commemoration of the 75th year of bilateral relations between the two countries in 2025, Sugiono also expressed Indonesia's interest in expanding cooperation to achieve national food resilience and clean energy development.
Most of Norway's electricity is generated from hydropower. Sugiono hopes that Norway's experience can help Indonesia develop hydropower plants to achieve the clean energy target in the Electricity Supply Business Plan (RUPTL) 2025-2030.
It is worth mentioning that the bilateral relations between Indonesia and Norway have been established since January 25, 1950.
Indonesia and Norway have agreed on the Joint Declaration of Indonesia-Norway "Partnership for a Prosperous and Sustainable Future," which contains references for the strategy to enhance bilateral cooperation between the two countries in the future, especially in key sectors such as the economy, trade, clean energy development, food security, and education.
