
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman and his Russian counterpart Oksana Nikolaevna Lut recently held a bilateral meeting in St. Petersburg, Russia, to discuss strategic collaborations in the agricultural sector.
According to an official statement from the Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture received in Jakarta on Thursday, June 19, 2025, the two ministers focused on several key areas.
First, the increased investment in the sugar sector through the Indonesia-Russia partnership. Second, boosting the volume of Indonesian CPO exports to the Russian market. Third, plans to build a joint fertilizer industry as part of food security cooperation. Fourth, opening access for meat imports from Russia to Indonesia. Fifth, strengthening technical cooperation and agricultural research based on technology.
The meeting was also attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto. This underscored the importance of agricultural cooperation as a vital pillar in the bilateral relationship between the two nations.
During the state meeting at the Konstantin Palace in St. Petersburg on Thursday, Putin affirmed Russia's commitment to expanding strategic cooperation with Indonesia across various fields, including agriculture, space exploration, energy, and defense.
"We are developing a lot of cooperation in the field of agriculture, space exploration, energy, as well as military and technical. There are many opportunities, and we have the capacity to develop together," said Putin.
Meanwhile, Prabowo added that the relationship between Indonesia and Russia continues to show positive trends and significant potential, especially in the economic sphere. "Our relationship is continuously improving. I see a lot of progress in various sectors. The economy is getting better, and cooperation is becoming wider and more productive," Prabowo commented.
During the occasion, Russian Agriculture Minister Oksana Nikolaevna Lut officially invited Indonesian Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman to make a special visit to Russia in October 2025. This invitation symbolizes both countries' commitment to strengthening strategic partnerships in the food sector and fostering greater opportunities for agricultural businesses to connect and grow.
Minister Amran's upcoming visit to Russia in October 2025 is expected to be a pivotal moment for following up on the concrete cooperation commitments discussed and paving the way for a stronger, more sustainable agricultural industry.
