Government to Review Safety of Indonesian Hospital Medical Staff in Gaza

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin will review the security situation at the Indonesian Hospital in Gaza, Palestine. This evaluation comes after the Director of the Indonesian Hospital in the Gaza Strip, Marwan Al-Sultan, was killed in an Israeli attack on Wednesday, June 2, 2025.

Budi will decide on the necessary actions to ensure the safety of Indonesian medical personnel there. "Later, I will see, because we have also brought back some (medical personnel)," said Budi after attending a meeting with the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture in Jakarta on Thursday, July 3, 2025.

Budi also expressed condolences for the death of Marwan Al-Sultan and his family. He hoped that everyone, especially the Indonesian medical personnel, would be safe. "I pray for our Indonesian health workers there, and especially that they be given patience, and hopefully this war will end soon," said Budi.

Prior to this, the Indonesian humanitarian organization, MER-C, stated that Marwan and his family died in a direct attack on their residence. "Information received stated that a total of nine Palestinians were martyred in the attack, and several others were injured," MER-C said in a written statement on their social media account.

The Indonesian Hospital in the Gaza Strip has repeatedly been targeted by Israeli Zionist forces since the aggression against the enclave began on October 7, 2023. The healthcare facility was last attacked by Israel at the end of May, causing severe structural damage and hindering local healthcare services.
