TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The headquarters of Israel's military, or IDF, was struck by Iranian missiles on Friday night, June 13, causing severe damage to Israel's Pentagon complex.
Footage circulating on social media shows the attack hitting an area that houses several military sites, including the main command center of the Israel Defense Forces. The dramatic clip broadcasts interceptor missiles being fired into the sky just moments before a dazzling flash, a thunderous explosion, and the aftermath.
The video indicates that at least one Iranian missile penetrated Israel's air defense and hit a sensitive command location in the heart of Tel Aviv.
“This is Israel’s version of the Pentagon, the Kiryat, and the building on this compound was just hit,” said Fox News' chief foreign correspondent Trey Yingst, reporting from the scene as cited by The New York Post.
Yingst, who was forced to seek shelter as a large number of Iranian missiles fell earlier, said the country also used about 150 ballistic missiles to target residential areas and military installations around Tel Aviv. “These ballistic missiles make the rockets that were being fired from Gaza look like toys,” he said.
The IDF has not confirmed whether its headquarters was hit. Nevertheless, the IDF released raw footage showing Iran firing waves of ballistic missiles at the Jewish ethno-state for hours on Friday. “The IDF cannot, and will not, allow Iran to attack our civilians,” wrote the military body in X.
Israel launched a massive airstrike on Iran on Friday, targeting Iran's nuclear and military facilities, as well as several senior military commanders.
The sudden attack reportedly killed at least 20 senior Iranian commanders, including the head of the Revolutionary Guard. Six nuclear scientists were also confirmed dead in the attack.
Two senior Iranian generals were killed in the Israeli attack on Saturday morning, according to the Times of Israel, citing Iranian state media. Deputy head of intelligence of the Iranian military's general staff, General Gholamreza Mehrabi, and deputy head of operations, General Mehdi Rabbani, were killed in the attack on Iran's nuclear and air defense system, the outlet reported.
Iran retaliated by firing missiles at Tel Aviv. Three Israeli citizens were killed in the retaliatory strike. Two people died when a missile hit Rishon Lezion, just south of Tel Aviv, according to Israel's emergency service Magen David Adom, as reported to CNN.
