TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Pakistan has pledged to support Iran and has urged the Muslim community to unite against Israel. As reported by Anadolu, Pakistani Defense Minister Khwaja Asif stated that Muslim countries must now unite against Israel.
"Israel has targeted Iran, Yemen, and Palestine. If Muslim countries do not unite now, each will face the same fate," he said during his speech at the National Assembly on Saturday, June 14, 2025.
He urged Muslim countries with diplomatic relations with Israel to immediately sever ties. Asif called on the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to convene and formulate a joint strategy.
Asif stated that Pakistan has deep ties with Iran and Islamabad supports Tehran during these difficult times. "We support Iran and will back them at every international forum to protect their interests," he said.
Pakistani Vice Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar also referred to Israel's attack on Iran as a blatant violation of Iran's sovereignty on Friday. "Pakistan expresses solidarity with the government and people of Iran," he said.
He also spoke with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi over the phone, reaffirming Pakistan's strong support for the government and people of Iran to achieve peace and stability in the region.
In the early hours of Friday, Israeli forces attacked Iran, hitting nuclear and missile facilities, killing over 104 people, including military commanders and top scientists, and injuring nearly 380 others. According to reports, Iran retaliated with ballistic missiles targeting several areas in Israel, killing three people and injuring over 170 others.
The attack killed Iran's chief of staff, the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), several top commanders, and nuclear scientists. Many countries, including Turkey and Pakistan, have condemned Israel's actions.
On the third day of the war, Israel intensified its military campaign against Iran, targeting civilian infrastructure and key energy facilities. Israel and Iran have launched a new wave of attacks on key cities, sparking fears of a long-term war.
Israel targeted Iran's Ministry of Defense headquarters in Tehran on Sunday morning, according to the semi-official Tasnim news agency. Iranian officials also said that the Shahran oil depot, northwest of Tehran, was attacked by Israel. Tasnim News reported that operational and rescue forces arrived at the scene and are still trying to extinguish the fire.
