TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Directorate General of Immigration at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights has revealed that Attorney General’s Office fugitive Muhammad Riza Chalid is believed to be in Malaysia.
The corruption suspect in the management of crude oil and refinery products at PT Pertamina (Persero) from 2018 to 2023 was found to have traveled to Malaysia on February 6, 2025.
Acting Director General of Immigration Yuldi Yusman said the authorities have coordinated with immigration officials in Malaysia to confirm Riza Chalid’s whereabouts.
“Since his departure until now, he has not returned to Indonesian territory,” Yuldi told Tempo on Wednesday, July 16, 2025.
Yuldi added that Indonesian Immigration has worked with the Malaysian Immigration Department and Malaysian Police in the search for Riza. “His whereabouts are suspected to be in Malaysia at the moment,” he said.
Previously, Director of Investigation at the Attorney General’s Office, Abdul Qohar, said that Riza remains on the wanted list. “The individual (MRC) is the beneficial owner of PT Orbit Terminal Merak (OTM). So, his current whereabouts are suspected to be outside of Indonesia,” Qohar said during a press conference at the AGO Round Building in Jakarta on Thursday, July 10, 2025.
According to Qohar, investigators had summoned Riza three times in a row. “Based on information, the individual is not residing within the country,” he said.
Qohar also noted that authorities had received information suggesting Riza is currently in Singapore. As a result, investigators have reached out to the Indonesian Attorney General’s Office representative in that country. “So, we have taken these steps to find and bring the individual back,” he said.
Riza is among nine new suspects named in the AGO’s announcement of the crude oil corruption case on Thursday, July 10, 2025. Qohar said that the suspects face a total of 15 charges, including Article 2 Paragraph 1 or Article 3 in conjunction with Article 18 of the Law on the Eradication of Corruption.
