TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that President Prabowo Subianto will undertake a state visit to the Russian Federation next week. During his visit, he is scheduled to meet with President Vladimir Putin and deliver a speech at an international economic forum.
"The President and a limited entourage are scheduled to visit St. Petersburg, Russia, from June 18-20, 2025," stated the ministry's spokesperson Rolliansyah Soemirat, or Roy, during a press conference at the ministry office in Jakarta on Thursday, June 12, 2025.
Roy explained that while accepting Putin's invitation, Prabowo will also attend the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) in St. Petersburg. "The President is scheduled to deliver a speech at both the opening session and the plenary session of the SPIEF, alongside the President of Russia," he said.
Regarding the meeting with Putin, Roy stated that Prabowo would discuss the development of bilateral cooperation between the two countries. The two leaders, Roy added, will also exchange views on regional and global issues of mutual concern.
Roy further explained that Prabowo is also expected to sign several memorandums of understanding (MoUs), including those covering cooperation in transportation development, shipbuilding, education, the creative economy, and computer technology.
In connection with this, Roy assured that a meeting between Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will precede the meeting of the two heads of state in Moscow.
Last April, Russian Ambassador to Indonesia Sergei Tolchenov indicated that preparations were underway for the Indonesian President's visit to Russia in June. "The visit plan has been confirmed by the Indonesian side, and we will prepare this important agenda thoroughly," Ambassador Tolchenov stated in Jakarta on Monday, April 28, 2025, as cited by Antara.
Tolchenov expressed hope that Prabowo would utilize his presence at SPIEF 2025 to convey his vision and views on the global economic situation and how Indonesia addresses global issues.
