Indonesia's Top 10 Imports from Iran as of April 2025, Led by Dates

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Amid rising tensions in the Middle East, Indonesia continues to import a variety of commodities from Iran, including dates and petroleum jelly. From January to April 2025, the total import value reached Rp73.2 billion.

According to indonesia.go.id, Indonesia and Iran have maintained diplomatic relations since 1950. Historical ties between the peoples of both countries go back even further, shaped by centuries of trade and the spread of Islam.

So, what are the main goods imported from Iran to Indonesia?

Top Imported Commodities from Iran to Indonesia

Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) accessed on Monday, June 23, 2025, Indonesia's imports from Iran totaled US$4.58 million as of April 2025, or approximately Rp73.2 billion (using an exchange rate of Rp16,000 per US dollar). This figure reflects the cumulative import value from January to April 2025 at various Indonesian ports.

The most frequently imported commodity from Iran is dates, both fresh and dried, valued at US$2.89 million or around Rp46.2 billion.

This is followed by pistachios, in-shell, fresh or dried, peeled or unpeeled, with an import value of US$430,500 or about Rp6.8 billion.

Another notable product is dried grapes, worth US$328,420 or approximately Rp5.2 billion. In fourth place are alkaloids, opium and its derivatives (salted, and outside HS codes 29391110–29391190), with a value of US$256,500 or around Rp4.1 billion.
