Iran to Keep Enriching Uranium Despite U.S. and Israeli Strikes

5 hours ago 2

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Iran has pledged to continue enriching uranium under the framework of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), even after recent attacks by the United States and Israel.

This affirmation was made by Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs, Majid Takht Ravanchi, on Monday, June 23, 2025, as reported by the semi-official Tasnim News Agency and cited by Turkish outlet Yeni Safak.

"No one can tell us what we should or should not do as long as we move within the framework of our obligations under the treaty," Ravanchi said in an interview with Germany’s Das Erste national broadcaster.

A day earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed that American forces had struck three Iranian nuclear facilities located in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. The offensive involved six bunker-buster bombs dropped by B-2 stealth bombers on Fordow and 30 Tomahawk cruise missiles launched from submarines targeting Natanz and Isfahan.

According to Al Arabiya, satellite imagery indicated damage to the underground site in Fordow from the attack, though experts have yet to verify the full extent.

Trump warned Iran against retaliation, declaring that the country “must come to terms now” or face “much bigger and easier” attacks in the future.

Despite global appeals for restraint and a return to diplomacy, Iran vowed to defend itself following what has become the largest coordinated U.S.-Israeli military action against the country since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

The strike marked a new phase in Israel’s large-scale military campaign that began on June 13. In retaliation, Iran has launched missile strikes on Israeli territory.

So far, over 430 people in Iran have been killed and more than 3,500 injured due to Israeli attacks. Israel, in turn, has reported 25 deaths and several hundred injuries.
