TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Iran launched a missile strike on Israel in the early hours of Tuesday, June 24, 2025, following claims made by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding a "complete and total ceasefire" between the two countries.
Air raid sirens sounded in several areas of Israel after the Israeli military reported missile launches from Iran. According to Israel's Channel 12, as reported by Anadolu, two rockets were launched towards northern Israel, and both were successfully intercepted by the Israeli air defense system.
A clip uploaded by The Jerusalem Post, as reported by Aljazeera, showed the moment when an Iranian missile struck southern Israel, resulting in several casualties.
Initial reports stated that at least three people were killed and several others injured in the attack on Beersheba.
Israeli news outlet ILTV quoted the head of Israel's emergency response agency, Eli Bin, stating that there were concerns that some people might be trapped in three buildings that sustained serious damage in the recent Iranian attack on Beersheba.
ILTV mentioned that at least three people were rescued from a safe room on the fourth floor of one of the buildings that experienced a "direct hit."
Rescue efforts were carried out amid new missile warnings from Iran.
The attack occurred almost an hour after the deadline set by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, who stated that Iran would halt its attacks if Israel stopped attacking by 4 a.m. local time in Tehran.
"As of now, there is NO ‘agreement’ on any ceasefire or cessation of military operations," Araghchi wrote on the X platform at 4:16 a.m. Tehran time.
"However, provided that the Israeli regime stops its illegal aggression against the Iranian people no later than 4 am Tehran time, we have no intention to continue our response afterwards."
Trump announced the ceasefire agreement on Truth Social, stating that the ceasefire would commence around midnight on Tuesday Eastern U.S. time and would officially end the war.
However, Israel has not officially acknowledged the ceasefire.
Nevertheless, there have been no reports of Israeli attacks on Iran after 4 a.m., although heavy Israeli strikes continued in Tehran and other cities until just before that time.
Regional tensions have sharply escalated since last Sunday, when the U.S. bombed Iran's nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. The attack marks the latest escalation in Israel's U.S.-backed military strikes against Iran since June 13, prompting Tehran to launch retaliatory attacks on Israel.
Meanwhile, Iranian state television claimed that Israeli forces had killed Mohammad Reza Siddiqi, a nuclear scientist, in recent attacks, of which Israel has yet to comment.
The status of the ceasefire announced by Trump is still unclear, especially in light of Iran's missile strikes that occurred after the set deadline.
