Iranian Ambassador Assures Protection for Indonesians in Iran

6 hours ago 3

TEMPO.CO, JakartaIranian Ambassador to Indonesia, Mohammad Boroujerdi, has assured full protection for Indonesian nationals in Iran amid the recent escalation of the Israel-Iran conflict, particularly following the attack on June 13.

"Communication with the Indonesian citizens there is critical. Our duty as the Islamic Republic government is to ensure to provide support and protection," Boroujerdi said during a press conference in Jakarta on Tuesday, June 17, 2025.

He further emphasized his government's readiness to facilitate an evacuation process should Indonesian citizens wish to depart.

"If there are any efforts or plans for evacuation, or if there is a desire from the people to leave our country, we are certainly ready to provide assistance and services to facilitate this evacuation operation," Boroujerdi affirmed.

The Iranian Ambassador also clarified that the ongoing conflict was not initiated by Iran. "Because they feel weak against Iran and are trying to drag others into war. We are not seeking war, so we will not attack other countries as long as they do not attack us, and all our operations are defensive," Boroujerdi explained.

He assured that Iran has no intention of escalating the conflict in a manner that could endanger foreign nationals, including Indonesian citizens.
