Prabowo, Trump Hold 15-Minute Call Ahead of Singapore and Russia Visits

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, received a phone call from United States President Donald Trump on Thursday night, June 12, 2025.

The call lasted approximately 15 minutes and covered various topics, including mutual greetings and a shared commitment to strengthen cooperation between the two nations.

Details of the conversation were shared by Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya in a written statement released on Friday, June 13, 2025.

Teddy explained that both leaders asked about each other's well-being and discussed recent developments in their respective countries. During the call, Prabowo also congratulated Trump on his successful re-election as President of the United States.

"Likewise, President Trump also extended congratulations on the election of President Prabowo as the 8th President of the Republic of Indonesia," the Cabinet Secretariat said in an official statement released to the public.

Along with exchanging congratulations, the leaders also spoke about the importance of enhancing cooperation between Indonesia and the United States. Both agreed to continue strengthening bilateral relations and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting efforts that promote global stability and peace.

This was not the first phone conversation between the two presidents. Prabowo and Trump previously spoke on November 11, 2024, shortly after both won their respective elections. The call was part of an ongoing effort to foster close ties between their administrations from the start.

President Prabowo had also expressed interest in holding a direct meeting with President Trump. He intended to discuss global issues, including the rising trade tensions between the United States and China.

During the Antalya Diplomacy Forum in Turkey on April 11, 2025, Prabowo said in an official statement, "I have requested time, hopefully, yes." The remark was included in a video posted on the Presidential Secretariat’s official YouTube channel.

Beyond official communication, President Prabowo also shared news of the phone call with President Trump through a post on his personal Instagram account, @prabowo. In the post, uploaded on Friday, June 13, 2025, he wrote, "Today I received a phone call from the President of the United States, Donald Trump."

Following his state visit to Singapore, Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to continue his foreign agenda with a visit to St. Petersburg, Russia. He departed after completing his official agenda in Singapore on Monday night, June 16, 2025.

The presidential aircraft PK-GRD, carrying Prabowo and his delegation including Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, departed from Paya Lebar Air Base, Singapore Air Force Base, at around 10:45 PM local time en route to Russia.

Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Chief Hasan Nasbi explained why President Prabowo Subianto chose to attend the St. Petersburg Economic Forum in Russia instead of the G7 Summit in Canada.
