
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The narcotics investigation unit of the North Sumatra Regional Police discovered a drug smuggling case involving 7.5 kilograms of crystal meth, brought by Indonesian migrant workers from Malaysia under the promise of Rp40 million pay.
"The drugs were smuggled from Malaysia by sea to Asahan Port," said the director of the Narcotics Investigation Unit, Police Grand Commissioner Jean Calvin Simanjuntak, as quoted from his statement on Friday, June 20, 2025.
The investigators have designated three couriers with the initials SAR, SOL, and PAR as suspects. The police reported that the suspects have carried out the shipment of methamphetamine, or crystal meth, three times with a total of nearly 12.5 kilograms.
"The discovery was made in collaboration between the general crime and narcotics units," stated Jean Calvin.
Meanwhile, the general crime investigation unit at the North Sumatra police also named 10 suspects in human trafficking cases at a press conference held on Thursday, June 19, 2025. The 10 suspects are related to six different cases handled throughout June 2025. The police claimed to have successfully rescued 70 victims, consisting of 42 men, 26 women, and 2 girls.
