Prabowo and Chinese Premier Discuss Free Meals, Energy Self-Sufficiency, and Giant Sea Wall

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, announced that President Prabowo Subianto discussed several important national programs during a meeting with Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang at Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Sunday, May 25, 2025. 

Some of the programs they talked about included the free nutritious meals (MBG) program, the plan for energy self-sufficiency, and the building of a giant sea wall along the northern coast of Java Island.

"We certainly expect [China's contribution] in the form of higher investments. The President earlier talked about flagship programs, such as free nutritious meals and also energy self-sufficiency. In the future, strategic projects, such as the giant sea wall, are also being prepared," Airlangga told reporters when met at the Presidential Palace, as quoted by Antara on May 25, 2025.

Airlangga, along with several ministers from the Red and White Cabinet, accompanied President Prabowo in the bilateral meeting with Chinese Premier Li Qiang at Merdeka Palace on Sunday afternoon.

The Indonesian delegation included Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, Head of the National Defense Forces (DEN) Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, Investment and Industrial Estate Minister Rosan Perkasa Roeslani, and several other officials, including the Vice Minister and Indonesian Ambassador to China Djauhari Oratmangun.

During this official visit, President Prabowo and Prime Minister Li also witnessed the signing of four Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) and eight other documents for strategic cooperation between Indonesia and China.
