1 day ago 6

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Surabaya Mayor Eri Cahyadi has issued Circular Number 400.7.7.1/11560/436.7.2/2025 concerning the Increase in Alertness and Prevention of Covid-19 Transmission in Surabaya, East Java. This circular is a follow-up to the Circular from the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia Number: SR.03.01/C/1422/2025 issued on May 23, 2025 regarding the development of Covid-19 cases in Indonesia.

"This recommendation follows the increase in cases of Covid-19 in several countries in the Asian region, such as Thailand, Hong Kong, Malaysia, and Singapore, even though the situation in Indonesia shows a decreasing trend," said Eri in Surabaya, as quoted from Antara, Sunday, June 6, 2025.

Eri Cahyadi urged all stakeholders, government and private institution leaders, and the entire community of Surabaya to remain cautious and disciplined in implementing health protocols in the circular.

"We don't need to panic, but we still have to be cautious and disciplined in implementing Health Protocols (Prokes) and Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS)," said Eri.

Eri also advised the public to be disciplined in implementing health protocols, including washing hands with soap or hand sanitizer, applying cough etiquette, and wearing masks when sick or in crowded places, such as health service facilities, public transportation, or in poorly ventilated areas.

"Citizens are advised to reduce unnecessary physical mobility and self-isolate when experiencing symptoms, and promptly undergo antigen/PCR tests according to clinical indications," he added.

Mayor Surabaya also urged the public experiencing Covid-19 symptoms, such as cough, fever, runny nose, or shortness of breath, to promptly seek medical treatment at the nearest health service facilities, especially if they have a history of contact with a sick person or have traveled from overseas.

The Mayor of Surabaya also requested the public to actively report positive cases or potential crowd gathering places that may cause the spread of COVID-19 to relevant cross-sector authorities at the district, sub-district, and local regional levels.

A Message from the East Java Provincial Government

Previously, Acting Governor of East Java Emil Dardak conveyed a message to the people of East Java to not panic in response to the increase in Covid-19 cases in several Asian countries.

"The public does not need to panic, but must remain cautious and implement preventive measures," said Emil in a statement received in Surabaya.

As reported by Antara, on June 6, 2025, Emil stated that the increase in reported cases in Asian countries involves different variants. Countries reported to have an increase in Covid-19 cases include Thailand, Hong Kong, Malaysia, and Singapore. However, the transmission of infection and the death rate are relatively low, including in Indonesia.

Meanwhile, there have been two cases of Covid-19 reported in East Java throughout this year, one case each in January and May. However, both cases have been declared recovered.
