TWICE's Jeongyeon Departs, First Member to Leave JYP Entertainment

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - TWICE’s Jeongyeon has officially left JYP Entertainment, becoming the first member of the K-pop group to announce her departure from the agency. The 29-year-old singer announced on Monday, August 10, on her Instagram account, sharing a handwritten letter with fans.

According to CNA, Jeongyeon said in her message that leaving JYP was "daunting at first," but she found the courage to move forward with the support of her TWICE members and the group's fans, known as Once. She also expressed gratitude to the JYP family for helping her grow throughout her time with the agency.

Despite leaving JYP, Jeongyeon stressed that her future with TWICE remains unchanged. She said the group will continue to be “the centre of my life” and that standing before Once as a TWICE member will remain her top priority.

“I thank you from the bottom of my heart for believing in me and always staying by my side. Since we still have so much time ahead of us to create new memories, I will work hard to fill those moments even more beautifully with Once,” wrote Jeongyeon in her letter.

Jeongyeon will now join South Korean agency Varo Entertainment, which also represents her sister, actress Gong Seung-yeon, and actor Byeon Woo-seok. Her move comes weeks after South Korean media reported that fellow TWICE member Tzuyu could also be leaving JYP Entertainment.

However, CNA reported that the status of the remaining eight TWICE members’ solo contracts had not been revealed at the time of publication. Jeongyeon’s departure therefore marks a new chapter for the singer while she remains committed to continuing her activities as a member of TWICE.
