TEMPO.CO, Depok - West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi will impose a curfew on students starting June 1, 2025. The policy will restrict students from leaving their homes from 9:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. local time, with some exceptions.
The plan was conveyed by Dedi Mulyadi after delivering a public lecture on the Values of Culture and Governance at the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, University of Indonesia, on Tuesday, May 27, 2025.
"The curfew will start in June, and in the new academic year, we want to emphasize that students, emphasis on students, are not allowed to leave their homes after 9:00 p.m.," said Dedi.
Regarding the exceptions, Dedi said students can leave after dark if accompanied by parents and for specific reasons.
"For example, if there are economic aspects that require resolving," he said.
"As long as they don't loiter and spend time irrelevant to living and education needs," explained Dedi.
Dedi said the provincial government has made a memorandum of understanding with the police and military personnel. "Along with the municipal police (Satpol PP), the neighborhood chiefs, everyone is involved," said Dedi, adding that he hopes to create a deterrent with the policy.
Dedi claimed that the shock effect of sending children to military barracks for education is starting to show, with a decrease in street brawls, children becoming more diligent, and walking to school.
"The use of noisy motorcycle exhausts has started to decrease. This program requires consistency," emphasized Dedi.
When asked about the sanctions for students who violate the curfew, Dedi assured that there will be punishments. They will also be called in for guidance counseling by teachers at school.
Previously, Dedi Mulyadi issued Circular Letter Number: 51/PA.03/DISDIK Regarding the Implementation of a curfew for students to realize the Special West Java Pancasila Waluya Generation, which was electronically signed on May 23, 2025.
