TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported that 96 percent of West Java experienced low rainfall during the second ten-day period of July 2025.

For the third period, from July 21 to 30, the agency predicts that 76 percent of the region will continue to see low rainfall.

Data from BMKG's West Java Climatology Station shows that only 4 percent of the province recorded medium rainfall, ranging from 50 to 150 millimeters, between July 11 and 20.

This occurred in limited areas such as parts of Bogor Regency, Purwakarta, Garut, and Tasikmalaya Regency. The remaining 96 percent received low rainfall, measured at 0 to 50 millimeters.

Looking ahead to the final days of July, BMKG forecasts that low rainfall will persist in 76 percent of West Java.

Affected areas include northern coastal regions such as Bekasi, Karawang, Indramayu, and both Cirebon City and Regency.

Similar conditions are expected in eastern Bogor Regency, much of Sukabumi and Cianjur, Purwakarta, West Bandung Regency, Cimahi City, and Bandung City and Regency.

Low rainfall is also likely in Sumedang, Majalengka, Kuningan, Ciamis, and parts of Garut. Meanwhile, moderate rainfall is forecasted for Tasikmalaya City and Regency, particularly near the borders with Garut and Pangandaran.

About 2 percent of the region, including southern Bogor and southern Tasikmalaya, has the potential to receive heavy rainfall.

According to BMKG observations, Karang Kendal in Cirebon has experienced the longest dry spell so far, with 17 days without rain. Weather forecaster Alita Nuraeni from BMKG’s West Java Climatology Station explained that several factors are influencing the potential for rain in the coming week.

These include the continued activity of the Low Equatorial wave and relatively warm sea surface temperatures surrounding Indonesian waters, both of which increase the availability of water vapor in the atmosphere.

She noted that overall atmospheric conditions range from mildly to strongly unstable, supporting the development of convective clouds that could lead to rainfall of varying intensities.

BMKG predicts almost no chance of moderate to very heavy rainfall with thunder and strong winds from Monday to Thursday, July 21 to 24.

However, such weather is expected in Tasikmalaya Regency on Friday, July 25; in Ciamis and Tasikmalaya on Saturday, July 26; and again in Tasikmalaya on Sunday, July 27.
