Xiaomi to Name Latest Operating System HyperOS 26

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Xiaomi is reported to be changing the naming scheme of its latest operating system, following Apple's recent release of iOS 26. Instead of continuing sequential naming like HyperOS 3, the Chinese company is said to name its latest operating system as HyperOS 26.

As quoted from GSM Arena on June 8, this move is said to aim at aligning the operating system naming with the calendar year, to facilitate marketing and avoid confusion among users.

Previously, Apple was reported to take a similar approach by launching iOS 26, macOS 26, and iPadOS 26 in 2025, instead of iOS 19 as per the usual order. Now, the Cupertino-based company has announced its latest operating system at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) last Monday.

HyperOS 26 is estimated to be launched around October or November and will be based on Android 16. Although this new scheme is considered to make it easier for users to track the launch time, it also demands Xiaomi to maintain a consistent release schedule to avoid lagging behind the version names used. There is no official confirmation from Xiaomi yet, but further information is expected to emerge prior to its official launch.

Apple's move to change the name of the information system is aimed at simplifying and aligning the version numbering of its operating system which has been inconsistent. Before the change, Apple's software versions used different numbers, such as iOS 18, watchOS 12, and visionOS 2
