TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - In 2026, Singapore continues to lead the ranking of the world’s most powerful passports, granting its citizens visa-free access to 192 destinations worldwide. The figure is nearly five times the access of the lowest-ranked countries, as noted by Visual Capitalist.
Trailing by just five destinations are Japan, South Korea, and United Arab Emirates, each offering access to 187 destinations without a prior visa. The UAE stands out as the strongest passport outside East and Southeast Asia, though it lacks visa-free access to the United States unlike Japan, South Korea, and top-holder Singapore.
European countries also show a strong presence, led by Sweden in third place with access to 186 destinations. Fourth place is dominated by several European Union member states, joined by Norway and Switzerland, each offering 185 destinations.
A notable tie also occurs in sixth place, where Southeast Asia gem Malaysia ranks alongside Hungary, Poland, and the United Kingdom, all with visa-free access to 184 destinations worldwide.
Another tie is seen in seventh place, where Australia, Canada, and New Zealand are joined by Czechia, Latvia, Slovakia, and Slovenia, as well as the US sharing its tenth position alongside Iceland.
This ranking of the world’s most powerful passports is based on the Henley Passport Index, an annual index published by the England-based citizenship advisory firm Henley & Partners. The index is compiled using data from the International Air Transport Association. Updated monthly, this report reflects the May 2026 edition.
