TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Foreign ministers from twenty-one Arab and Muslim countries have called for an end to Israeli strikes on Iran and stressed the importance of preventing attacks on nuclear facilities.

This was stated in a joint statement issued on Monday, June 16, as quoted by the Egyptian news agency MENA and reported by Anadolu.

The 21 countries include Egypt, Jordan, Pakistan, Bahrain, Brunei, Turkey, Chad, Gambia, Algeria, Comoros, United Arab Emirates, Djibouti, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Somalia, Iraq, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, Libya, and Mauritania.

The foreign ministers condemned Israel's attack on Iranian territory, calling it a violation of international law and the United Nations Charter.

The joint statement emphasized the need to respect national sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the principles of good neighborliness and called for the peaceful resolution of disputes.

The ministers also expressed “deep concern” over the dangerous escalation, warning that it could have serious consequences for regional security and stability.

The foreign ministers emphasized the need to halt Israel's hostile actions against Iran, especially amid rising regional tensions, according to the statement.

They also called for nuclear talks with Iran to resume immediately and stressed the importance of maintaining freedom of navigation in international waters.

The statement warned against targeting nuclear facilities under the safeguards of the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) and urged all parties to resume negotiations as they "remain the only viable path to resolving crises in the region."

Regional tensions have escalated since Friday, when Israel launched coordinated airstrikes on several locations in Iran, including military and nuclear facilities, prompting Tehran to launch retaliatory strikes.

Israeli authorities said on Monday that at least 24 people had been killed and hundreds more injured in Iranian missile strikes since then. Iran said at least 224 people had been killed and more than 1,000 others injured in the Israeli strikes.
