TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), through the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran, responded to Israeli strikes on several locations in Iran on Friday morning, June 13, 2025.
The Indonesian Embassy in Tehran said it is engaging in communication with Indonesian citizens residing in Iran to ascertain their conditions and safety. The government recorded 383 Indonesians currently residing in Iran.
Prior to this, MoFA and the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran had prepared a contingency plan to protect Indonesian citizens in Iran and had set the Alert Level 2 status since July 2024.
MoFA urged Indonesian citizens in Iran to promptly contact the Tehran Embassy hotline at +989024668889 in case of emergency.
Previously, Foreign Minister Sugiono lamented the attack on Iran by Israel. "We are concerned. We condemn that this happened," Sugiono told reporters on Friday, June 13, 2025, adding that the strikes carried a worrying implication.
"If all parties cannot restrain themselves, this will certainly worsen the situation," he said.
The minister expressed hope for no further escalation between Iran and Israel, stressing that Indonesia will monitor the situation.
Israel finally launched an attack on Iran on Friday, June 13, 2025, targeting its nuclear facilities and military locations. The attack took place after US President Donald Trump warned of the possibility of a major conflict in the region.
Explosions were heard on Friday morning in the Iranian capital, as reported by state TV. As a result of the attack, Iran's air defense was on 100 percent alert.
Israeli Defense Minister Katz said that retaliatory action from Tehran may occur following the operation. Israel declared a state of emergency.
"Following the State of Israel's preemptive strike against Iran, a missile and drone attack against the State of Israel and its civilian population is expected in the immediate future," Katz said, as quoted by NDTV.
