TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto presented two symbolic gifts to Russian President Vladimir Putin after a bilateral meeting in St. Petersburg, Russia, on Thursday, June 20. Prabowo gifted a finely carved miniature statue of the Garuda, a mythical bird emblematic of Indonesia, encased in a box.
"The Garuda is the symbol of our nation," Prabowo said, as quoted by the presidential media team on Friday, June 20.
He also presented Putin with a traditional Balinese keris, a ceremonial dagger named Pattimura. "This is a keris from Bali. It's called Pattimura," the former defense minister said.
In return, Putin showed Prabowo two brown-covered books titled Military Leadership, authored by Prabowo during his tenure as Indonesia's Defense Minister. The books had been translated into Russian and published in Russia.
"Mr. President, while you were Defense Minister, you wrote a book on military leadership. We translated it into Russian and published it for your collection," Putin said, gesturing to the books. He then gifted Prabowo an officer's sword. "This is an officer's sword, and I'd like to present it to you, Mr. President," he added.
Additionally, Putin gave Prabowo a coin, explaining it as a Russian tradition symbolizing friendship in bilateral relations. "That's the Russian tradition, to give coins," he said.
Earlier, on Thursday, June 19, Prabowo and Putin witnessed the exchange of several bilateral cooperation agreements at Konstantinovsky Palace in St. Petersburg. One notable memorandum of understanding involved collaboration between Indonesia's Danantara and Russia's Joint Stock Company "Management Company of Russian Direct Investment Fund."
President Prabowo's two-day visit to Russia from June 19-20 included an appearance at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) 2025 on Friday. Putin described the forum as a valuable gathering, attended by business leaders and politicians alike.
