Indonesian Traffic Police Review Green SM After Taxi-Train Crash

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The head of the Indonesian National Police Traffic Corps (Korlantas), Agus Suryonugroho, met with management of electric taxi operator Green SM Indonesia to review safety governance following a collision between one of its vehicles and a commuter train at a railway crossing near East Bekasi Station.

Agus said the meeting aimed to evaluate safety systems after the incident involving a KRL Commuter Line train. He emphasized the importance of the Traffic Attitude Record (TAR) system to monitor driver behavior in an integrated manner, including violation data captured through electronic traffic law enforcement (ETLE).

“This step is important to ensure that drivers have both competence and proper driving behavior,” he said in a press release on Tuesday, May 5, 2026.

He added that a thorough evaluation of the accident is necessary so the findings can serve as a basis for improving corporate oversight and transportation governance systems. According to Agus, the cause of the accident cannot be attributed solely to driver error.

He noted that crashes can also be influenced by vehicle condition, company management, as well as road and environmental factors.

“Corporations can also be held accountable,” he said.

Agus also offered a retraining program for drivers through the Indonesia Safety Driving Center (ISDC), which he said could help improve discipline and road safety awareness.

He stressed that such measures are needed to ensure drivers maintain both competence and responsible behavior.

“Out of 10,000 drivers, there must be proper control and supervision. They can be retrained to become more disciplined and compliant,” Agus said.
