Iran's Death Toll from Israeli Airstrikes Rises to 585, Reports Say

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Iranian media, as quoted from Anadolu, reported on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, that the death toll from Israeli airstrikes across Iran had risen to 585.

A Human Rights Activist group based in Washington claims to have identified 239 of the Iranian casualties as civilians and 126 as security personnel.

The group, which also detailed casualty figures during the 2022 protests over the death of Mahsa Amini, re-evaluated local reports in the Islamic Republic through its established network of sources in the country.

Meanwhile, Iran's Health Minister Mohammad-Reza Zafarghandi reported that Israel's unprovoked attacks since last Friday have resulted in around 1,800 Iranians being injured, the majority being civilians.

Regional tensions have escalated since Friday, when Israel launched airstrikes in several locations in Iran, including military and nuclear facilities, prompting Tehran to retaliate.

According to Zafarghandi, Israel's strike on the Quds Field in northern Tehran resulted in 12 deaths and 59 injuries. Among the casualties were a pregnant woman, 35 women, and 10 children, he said.

A number of senior Iranian military officials were also killed in the targeted airstrikes carried out by Israel. Civilians also suffered similar fates as their homes were directly targeted. Entire population centers were impacted.

Shortly after, the Iranian government began retaliatory strikes on Israeli territory, bombarding Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, and Haifa using ballistic missiles and drones.

As a result, Israeli citizens spent the day hiding in underground bomb shelters.

Since then, waves of Iranian strikes have hit targets deep inside Israeli territory.

Despite Israel's strict censorship, footage has emerged showing Iranian missiles hitting their targets in precision strikes. Iranian officials stated that the mission will continue for as long as necessary.
