TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Provincial Government has designated 103 private educational institutions as participants in its free private school program for the 2026 fiscal year. This policy is formalized under Governor's Decree Number 312 of 2026, which outlines the recipient institutions and their respective funding allocations.
Jakarta's Secretary of Education, Budiyono, confirmed that the program is fully financed by the Jakarta Provincial Budget (APBD) and distributed through the Education Office in each administrative region.
"All funding is allocated from the Jakarta Provincial Budget through the Education Offices in each region," he stated when contacted on Monday, May 4, 2026. The total budget earmarked for the free private school program in 2026 has reached Rp253,625,139,600.
According to Budiyono, these funds are utilized to cover all school operational requirements, ranging from teacher salaries and classroom activities to the provision of facilities and infrastructure. Under this funding scheme, he emphasized that participating schools are strictly prohibited from charging any fees to their students.
The initiative specifically targets schools in areas lacking public educational facilities, representing a concerted effort to broaden educational access for residents. Furthermore, students from underprivileged backgrounds enrolled in these institutions remain eligible for additional support through the Jakarta Smart Card (KJP) Plus program.
Budiyono views the free private school program as a vital component of the regional government's commitment to upholding the educational rights of citizens, as mandated by Article 31, paragraph (1) of the 1945 Constitution, while simultaneously improving teacher welfare and educational standards.
The program is being rolled out gradually, with consideration given to regional financial capacity and the educational needs of each area. The provincial government intends to maintain ongoing evaluations and explore opportunities to expand the number of recipient schools in the coming years.
The list of private institutions included in the program is available in the appendix of Governor's Decree Number 312 of 2026, or can be found through the Jakarta Education Office’s official channels, including its social media platforms.
