Jakarta: EVs Remain Tax-Free and Exempt from Odd-Even Rule

6 hours ago 3

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Provincial Government has ensured the continuation of fiscal incentives for battery-based electric vehicles (EVs). This policy framework includes exemptions from Motor Vehicle Tax (PKB) and the Transfer of Motor Vehicle Title Fee (BBNKB), alongside the ongoing waiver from the city’s odd-even traffic policy.

Lusiana Herawati, Head of the Jakarta Provincial Revenue Agency, noted that the regional mandate follows specific provisions established by the central government. This policy refers to the Ministry of Home Affairs Circular Number 900.1.13.1/3764/SJ regarding fiscal incentives for electric vehicles.

"Following the issuance of the Ministry's Circular regarding fiscal incentives in the form of PKB and BBNKB exemptions for battery-based electric motor vehicles, the Jakarta Provincial Government’s policy remains in line with these provisions: to continue providing full exemptions for battery-based electric vehicles," she stated in a press release on Tuesday, May 5, 2026.

Lusiana mentioned that this policy is part of efforts to encourage the transition toward low-emission vehicles in the capital. She emphasized that fiscal incentives are essential to accelerate electric vehicle adoption while simultaneously strengthening the regional clean energy ecosystem.

Traffic Waivers to Curb Air Pollution

Furthermore, Syafrin Liputo, Head of the Jakarta Transportation Agency, confirmed that the exemption of electric vehicles from the odd-even traffic policy remains in effect. This measure is deemed relevant for controlling air pollution and incentivizing the public to shift toward more sustainable modes of transportation.

"We are maintaining the odd-even policy exemption for battery-based electric vehicles. This is part of our broader effort to promote the use of environmentally friendly transport, aligned with our commitment to reducing emissions and bolstering sustainable urban mobility," he said.

Syafrin added that the development of the electric vehicle sector must be integrated into a wider urban mobility framework. He underscored the importance of strengthening public transportation and maintaining consistent environmental policies to gradually achieve the city’s ambitious emission reduction targets.
