TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is scheduled for a bilateral meeting with President Prabowo Subianto on his working visit to Indonesia on Friday, June 27, 2025. The Indonesian president welcomed Anwar upon his landing at Halim Perdanakusuma Airport at around 1:00 p.m. today.
In a statement from the Malaysian government's office in Putrajaya, several ministers will join the prime minister on his Indonesian visit, including Foreign Minister Mohamad bin Haji Hasan; the Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry, Senator Tengku Zafrul bin Tengku Abdul Aziz; the Minister of Higher Education, Senator Zambry bin Abdul Kadir; the Communications Minister, Ahmad Fahmi bin Mohamed Fadzil; and the Minister of Plantation and Commodities, Johari bin Abdul Ghani.
This visit also serves as a reciprocal gesture following Prabowo's previous visit to Malaysia. Prabowo visited Malaysia to establish bilateral ties and attend the 46th ASEAN Summit, the 2nd ASEAN-GCC Summit, and the ASEAN-GCC-China Summit on May 26 and 27, 2025.
"During the visit, the Prime Minister is scheduled to hold a restricted meeting with His Excellency President Prabowo Subianto," said the official statement from Putrajaya, June 26, 2025.
The two leaders will discuss various key bilateral issues, follow up on the outcomes of the 46th ASEAN Summit, the 2nd ASEAN-GCC Summit, and the ASEAN-GCC-China Summit, and exchange views on regional developments and global issues of mutual concern.
This visit is also part of the preparations for the 13th Annual Consultations between Malaysia and Indonesia scheduled to take place later this year.
The Malaysian government revealed that Indonesia became Malaysia's sixth-largest trading partner globally in 2024 and the second-largest among ASEAN member countries. Compared to the trade value in 2023 of US$24.39 billion, bilateral trade increased by 4.5 percent to US$25.5 billion in 2024.
"As close neighbors with deep historical ties and as founding members of ASEAN, this official visit underscores the shared commitment of Malaysia and Indonesia to strengthen bilateral cooperation for the mutual benefit of both nations and the broader ASEAN community," the statement read.
The last meeting between Prabowo and Anwar took place on April 6, 2025, in Kuala Lumpur. Their meeting discussed the impact of reciprocal tariff policies by the United States President Donald Trump on several ASEAN countries.
