Manchester United Falls 0-1 to ASEAN All-Stars in Friendly Match

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Manchester United suffered a 0-1 defeat in a friendly match against the ASEAN All-Stars at Bukit Jalil Stadium on Wednesday, May 28, 2025. Myanmar's Maung Maung Lwin scored the lone goal of the game.

Manchester United, under coach Ruben Amorim, initiated attacks early but struggled to penetrate the ASEAN All-Stars' defense. A counterattack in the 17th minute saw Nguyen Hai Long unleash a long-range shot towards Manchester United's goal, resulting only in a corner kick.

As the half progressed, both sides exchanged attacks. Sandro Reyes of the ASEAN All-Stars nearly scored in the 28th minute, but his effort was saved by goalkeeper Andre Onana. Undeterred, Manchester United pressed forward, with Kobbie Mainoo attempting an unsuccessful long-range shot in the 35th minute. The first half concluded with a 0-0 stalemate.

The ASEAN All-Stars began the second half dominating possession but also struggled to create clear scoring opportunities.

Manchester United intensified their attacks and pressured the ASEAN All-Stars' defense from the 65th minute onward. Bruno Fernandes, the Red Devils' midfield general, orchestrated plays, frequently distributing the ball to Alejandro Garnacho and Amad Diallo. Despite registering 12 shot attempts, their efforts proved fruitless.

The deadlock was broken by an ASEAN All-Stars counter. Adrian Segecic of Australia received the ball, passing it to Myanmar's Maung Maung Lwin. Lwin skillfully dribbled and then fired home, changing the score to 1-0 in the 71st minute.

Following the goal, Manchester United's offensive efforts against the ASEAN All-Stars' defense grew more fervent. Garnacho on the left and Amad on the right repeatedly attempted to dribble centrally, aiming to set up Chido Obi-Martin.

By the 85th minute, despite 16 shot attempts and four on target, Ruben Amorim's squad had yet to score. In contrast, the ASEAN All-Stars managed nine shot attempts, with two on target, securing their victory.

Indonesian player Malik Risaldi also played in this match. Coach Kim Sang-Sik brought him into the game in the 77th minute.
