Nintendo Switch 2 Holds Record as Fastest-Selling Console as 6 Million Units Sold

NINTENDO has recorded 5.82 million units sold of the Switch 2 console as of June 30, 2025, in less than a month since its launch. As quoted from GSM Arena, this doubles the sales of the first-generation Switch during the same period, which only reached 2.7 million units.

As of July 25, Engadget reported that Nintendo said the sales have surpassed 6 million units. Although not specifying the exact figure, the data shows that sales have slowed in July, despite the demand remaining high.

In the first week of its launch, Switch 2 has sold more than 3.5 million units. Nintendo acknowledges that the demand for this console still exceeds the supply in many countries and expresses apologies for the distribution limitations. To address this, the company is committed to increasing production capacity to meet global demand.

Switch 2 has now become the fastest-selling game console of all time. Its success has also contributed to Nintendo's second-quarter revenue (April-June), skyrocketing 132 percent compared to the same period the previous year, from US$1.6 billion to US$3.8 billion. The company aims to sell 15 million units of Switch 2 by the end of March 2026.

Software sales for Switch 2 also show strong performance, with a total of 8.67 million game units sold. This figure is largely driven by bundles of Switch 2 with Mario Kart World, as well as the launch of Donkey Kong Bananza and several games from third-party publishers. Nintendo has also announced a list of upcoming third-party games.

Additionally, Nintendo has recorded sales of 24.4 million game units for the first-generation Switch, largely driven by the compatibility of Switch 2 with the previous game catalog.

However, these achievements could be affected by the new import tariff policy from the Trump administration. The U.S. government has recently raised tariffs for imports from Vietnam—the production site of Switch 2—from 10 percent to 20 percent.
