The Head of the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK), Ivan Yustiavandana, stated that his side has not received any reports of "rush money," or large-scale fund withdrawals from the banking sector, despite widespread freezes of dormant accounts.
"No, there are no reports at all from our banking friends," Ivan said on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at the forum "National Strategies to Combat Financial Crimes" held at the JS Luwansa Hotel in Jakarta. He asserted that funds no longer being funneled into online gambling are, in fact, encouraging investment and economic growth.
Ivan also explained that the banking and economic conditions in the country remain conducive. This statement aligns with the official position of the Financial Services Authority (OJK). "We refer to what was conveyed by the OJK yesterday for this issue," he added.
According to Ivan, the OJK's recent press conference confirmed a positive trend for the national economy. "The OJK held a press conference, right? Everything is experiencing growth," he noted.
Furthermore, Ivan confirmed that the accounts frozen by the PPATK are linked to online gambling, although he did not provide further specifics. "Yes, there is. We are currently mapping it out," he said.
He emphasized the tangible impact of the PPATK's actions on the national economy. "What we are doing ultimately shows visible data on its impact on economic growth," he stated.
According to Ivan, when public funds are no longer channeled into illicit gambling transactions, the potential for economic growth increases through consumption and investment. This happens "Because the money is being used for more productive purposes."
A member of the National Economic Council (DEN), Firman Hidayat, previously stated that Indonesia's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth remains robust despite various digital financial challenges. This is reflected in the Central Statistics Agency's (BPS) report today, which shows that the economy grew by 5.12% in the second quarter of 2025.
Firman believed that one of the driving factors is the reduction in online gambling activities, which has allowed public funds to return to productive sectors. "It seems to be in line with the trend of decreasing deposits in online gambling. This means that the funds that used to go into online gambling and then go abroad can now be used by the public for more productive activities such as investments," he said.
