Overcast Weather Expected in Greater Jakarta Today, BMKG Says

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) forecasts cloudy weather in mainland Jakarta today, Tuesday, June 24, 2025. Only the Thousand Islands are expecting drizzles. 

In other regions surrounding Jakarta (Greater Jakarta), overcast weather is also expected, with an exception for South Tangerang City, which will see drizzles today.

Overall, BMKG reports potential significant cloud growth across Indonesia over the next week. As mentioned in the Weekly Weather Outlook for June 24-30, negative values remain for Outgoing Longwave Radiation (OLR).

In addition to atmospheric dynamics such as the Madden-Julian Oscillation phenomenon, the Rossby Equatorial wave, and the Kelvin wave that remain active, the potential for significant cloud growth causing heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds remains high and might occur over the next few days.

BMKG also monitors the presence of cyclonic circulation, which is predicted to persist this week in the western Indian Ocean off the coast of Sumatra and in the western South China Sea off the coast of the Philippines.

This cyclonic circulation forms a convergence zone stretching across the western Indian Ocean off the coast of Sumatra and forms a wind convergence in the southwestern Banten and South China Sea. These convergences are capable of driving the growth of rain clouds in the surrounding areas.

BMKG also reports that dry air intrusions from the southern region are predicted to cross the southwestern Indian Ocean off the coast of Banten to the south of East Nusa Tenggara. This intrusion is expected to lift moist air ahead of its boundary, triggering heavy rain in the southern parts of Indonesia this week.
