Pep Guardiola Says Man City Have Lost Control of Title Race

The result leaves City five points behind league leaders Arsenal, although they still have one game in hand.

“It’s now not in our hands; before it was, now no,” Guardiola said, quoted from the club’s official website on Tuesday.

“Four games we have [remaining] in the Premier League. They will be quite similar, and we’ll see what happens.”

City started strongly and dominated the first half, taking the lead through Jeremy Doku in the 43rd minute.

However, the game shifted after the break. Everton’s introduction of Thierno Barry in the 64th minute changed the momentum, with the 23-year-old scoring four minutes later after capitalizing on a mistake by Marc Guehi.

Barry’s goal sparked Everton’s comeback. Five minutes later, they went ahead through Jack O’Brien’s header from a James Garner corner. The Toffees extended their lead in the 81st minute with Barry’s second goal.

City responded late. Erling Haaland pulled one back in the 83rd minute, before Doku scored his second in the 90+7th minute to salvage a point.

“It’s better than losing. We’d rather win. We play for that, and we just showed what a team we are. We tried everything. The players were aggressive,” Guardiola said.

The draw leaves City on 71 points in second place, five behind Arsenal. Their next match is at home against Brentford on Saturday, May 9, at 11:30 PM local time.

A win would cut the gap to two points, while Arsenal play the following day away to West Ham United, who are battling to avoid relegation.
