Prabowo's Advisor Addresses Global and Domestic Threats

Special Advisor to the President Prabowo for National Defense, General (Ret.) Dudung Abdurachman, stated that the evolving global geopolitical situation poses threats that extend beyond regional conflicts to international disputes. He made this observation in the wake of a limited meeting with several ministers and leaders of the Indonesian Military (TNI) that was presided over by President Prabowo Subianto in Hambalang, Bogor, on Friday, August 1, 2025.

Dudung explained that the current geopolitical climate involves both regional and international issues.

"We are looking at both regional and international aspects. There are conflicts between Iran and Israel, as well as between Pakistan and India, and also between Thailand and Cambodia," Dudung said during his visit to Tempo's office on Tuesday, August 5, 2025.

According to the former Chief of Staff of the Army (KSAD), the TNI must carefully anticipate these conditions. He emphasized the importance of operational readiness and the preparedness of the forces, which should be managed by each chief of staff. "This needs to be addressed. The commander, as the user of force in the field, must anticipate operational readiness and soldier readiness," Dudung stated.

Dudung also noted that threats to national defense are not exclusively external. He identified ideology, politics, the economy, and domestic security as potential disruptions to national unity.

"Threats can also come from within, such as in the field of ideology, politics, and the economy. We know the current economic situation is not very good. Likewise, the political situation is lively in the media," he said.

He stated that President Prabowo must provide direct strategic guidance to address these situations. "This can also disrupt the unity of the nation. Therefore, the President must provide his guidance," Dudung asserted.

On Friday, August 1, President Prabowo convened a meeting with several ministers of the Red and White Cabinet and TNI leaders to discuss national defense strategies amid rising global tensions. This was confirmed in a statement by Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin.

"I fully support the President's vision to build a strong, modern, and independent defense force - to ensure the sovereignty of the country is maintained under any condition," Sjafrie said via his personal Instagram, as quoted on Tuesday, August 5, 2025.
