Prabowo Says Govt Will Continue Jokowi's Downstreaming Goals

TEMPO.CO, Karawang - President Prabowo Subianto said the government will continue, and speed up, the downstreaming of natural resources. According to Prabowo, downstreaming has long been the government's aspiration, ever since the regime of former President Joko Widodo.

"My predecessor, President Jokowi, emphasized the importance of downstreaming and initiated the downstreaming program of the 21st century," said Prabowo during his speech at the groundbreaking event of the Integrated Electric Vehicle Battery Industry Ecosystem Consortium Antam-IBC-CBL in Karawang, West Java, on Sunday, June 29, 2025.

Prabowo gave the electric vehicle industry ecosystem as an example. According to him, the project he inaugurated today kickstarted four years ago, under Jokowi's leadership.

"Thus, we see the role of President Jokowi," said Prabowo. "This is what i always say because I intend to invite all citizens to respect those who came before us, to honor those who actively contribute (to the nation)."

According to Prabowo, nation-building is a long journey, and the development of Indonesia began with the struggle for independence. This struggle continues even today, as Indonesia continues the goals borne during the fight for  independence: a good life for the people, freedom from hunger and poverty, and a life full of justice.

"And this can be realized when the nation is wise in utilizing the gifts given by the God Almighty," said Prabowo, clarifying that "wise" in this case refers to transforming natural resources into beneficial materials with high added value. Thus, it can promote prosperity and welfare for the Indonesian people.

Furthermore, regarding downstreaming, Prabowo affirmed that Indonesia will always choose cooperation and collaboration with other countries. "I choose friendship over enmity," he said.
