Trump Calls Netanyahu's Corruption Trial a "Political Witch Hunt"

6 hours ago 2

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - U.S. President Donald Trump, on Saturday, June 28, called the corruption trial involving Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu a "political witch hunt."

“It is terrible what they are doing in Israel to Bibi Netanyahu," Trump said on Truth Social, as quoted by Anadolu.

He referred to Netanyahu as a "war hero" and that he "did a fabulous job" together with the U.S. to "getting rid of the dangerous Nuclear threat in Iran."

Trump added that Netanyahu is also negotiating with Hamas to free Israeli hostages.

“How is it possible that the Prime Minister of Israel can be forced to sit in a Courtroom all day long, over NOTHING (Cigars, Bugs Bunny Doll, etc.). It is a POLITICAL WITCH HUNT, very similar to the Witch Hunt that I was forced to endure,” said Trump.

He called Netanyahu's trial a travesty to justice that “will interfere with both Iran and Hamas negotiations.”

He also condemned the investigation against Netanyahu as a form of "insanity."

“The United States of America spends Billions of Dollar (sic) a year, far more than on any other Nation, protecting and supporting Israel," said Trump.

He said that Netanyahu's trial "tarnishes" the victories achieved by the U.S. and Israel in the war against Iran.

"Let Bibi go. He's got a big job to do," Trump said.

Previously, he also called for the corruption trial of Netanyahu on Monday, June 30, 2025, to be canceled considering his "services" to Israel.

“I was shocked to hear that the State of Israel, which has just had one of its Greatest Moments in History, and is strongly led by Bibi Netanyahu, is continuing its ridiculous Witch Hunt against their Great War Time Prime Minister!” Trump wrote on Wednesday on the same social media platform.

Netanyahu is ensnared in three separate corruption cases that occurred in 2019. He denied all the allegations, which he called fake.

He began his trial on May 24, 2020, becoming the first leader in the history of Israel to be criminally charged.

Under Israeli law, he is not required to resign unless declared guilty by the Supreme Court, a process that could take months.

In addition to these cases, Netanyahu also faces charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity in the genocide in Gaza.

The International Criminal Court (ICC) issued a warrant for his arrest and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant in November for the atrocities in Gaza, where more than 56,400 victims, mostly women and children, have been killed since October 7, 2023.

Israel's Attorney General on Friday rejected Netanyahu's request to postpone his corruption trial for two weeks.

The request was filed by Netanyahu to the Jerusalem District Court on the grounds of needing to focus on other matters after Israel's attack on Iran, including bringing Israeli captives back from Gaza.
