Victory in 2025 MotoGP Netherlands Extends Marc Marquez's Lead in Rider Standings

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Ducati Lenovo rider Marc Marquez did not expect to win the Sprint Race session of the 2025 MotoGP Netherlands at the Assen Circuit, Netherlands, last Saturday local time.

The MotoGP's website on Sunday mentioned that Marquez had to participate in the Sprint Race session with suboptimal conditions after encountering two accidents during the Friday practice sessions. "I didn't expect to win, especially when I woke up this morning. Today was supposed to be a day lounging on the sofa and watching the MotoGP race from the sofa," Marquez said.

Starting the qualification from the front row for the second time this year in fourth position, Marquez leaped to second place from the finish line and led at the end of the opening round, maintaining a 13-second lead in the sprint.

He maintained his advantage over BK Gresini Racing MotoGP rider Alex Marquez who occupied the second position, trailing 0.351 seconds behind Marc.

This victory extended Marquez's lead in the standings to 43 points ahead of the Netherlands GP at the Assen Circuit on Sunday local time. "Today, we were not the fastest because Alex and Pecco (Bagnaia) were slightly faster than me," Marquez said.

The Spanish rider will then compete in the Grand Prix starting from the fourth position after failing to take the front row in the qualifications, losing to Fabio Quartararo, Francesco Bagnaia, and Alex Marquez.
