Prabowo Visits Patients Injured in Bekasi Train Crash

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's President Prabowo Subianto visited victims of a deadly train collision who are being treated at Chasbullah Abdulmadjid Regional General Hospital in Bekasi City, West Java, on Tuesday morning, April 28, 2026.

During the visit, Prabowo spoke with several patients receiving treatment. He first went to the surgical ward before continuing to the Bougenville treatment room.

The president, who is also chair of the Gerindra Party, expressed his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the incident.

“Today I came to the Bekasi hospital. Of course, we are all concerned and shocked by the accident that has occurred. I express my condolences personally and on behalf of the government,” he said in a statement released by the Presidential Secretariat.

Prabowo instructed that all injured victims receive the best possible medical care until they fully recover. He also received a briefing from relevant officials on the handling of victims following the incident.

The government, he added, is committed to managing the aftermath of the accident promptly and thoroughly.

“We will immediately conduct an investigation into the incident, but in general, we have observed that many railway tracks are not well maintained. We will address this immediately,” Prabowo said.

The collision involved the Argo Bromo Anggrek intercity train, which runs on the Gambir–Surabaya Pasar Turi route, and a commuter line (KRL) serving the Kampung Bandan–Cikarang route. The accident occurred at Bekasi Timur Station in Bekasi City on Monday night, April 27, at around 8:57 p.m. local time.

PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) President Director Bobby Rasyidin said the death toll has risen to 14.

“The deceased victims have been transported to Kramat Jati Police Hospital for identification,” Bobby said in a statement on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the number of injured—both with minor and serious injuries—has reached 84. All victims have been evacuated to nearby hospitals and health facilities for further treatment.

All fatalities and injuries were reported among passengers on the commuter train, while all 240 passengers aboard the Argo Bromo Anggrek train were safely evacuated.
