TEMPO.CO, Jakarta Firefighting water tankers and military vehicles from across South Korea were deployed on Thursday, August 13, to South Gyeongsang Province to supply water, as the drought in the southeastern region worsened.

The South Gyeongsang Fire Headquarters announced that, based on a national firefighting mobilization order issued on Tuesday, fire authorities deployed 200 water tankers and approximately 400 personnel from various regions to distribute water to the province.

Fourteen additional vehicles from the Army, Air Force, Navy and Forestry Service are participating in efforts to supply water to farmland and households in the drought-stricken region.

According to ANTARA, as of 6:00 p.m. local time on Wednesday, authorities had distributed nearly 4,770 tons of water to the province.

The situation worsened as all 18 administrative regions in South Gyeongsang Province officially entered drought status on Thursday. Hamyang County, previously the only unaffected area, has now been placed on drought alert.

The average water reserve level in the province's 18 administrative regions currently stands at 32.8 percent, well below the long-term average of 70.8 percent. This is the second mobilization order issued by the national fire department to address the drought in South Korea.

A similar order was first issued in August 2025 for the eastern coastal city of Gangneung.
