1. Australian Journalist Wins Wrongful Dismissal Case Over Gaza Post
Australian journalist Antoinette Lattouf has won an unlawful termination case against the public broadcaster ABC and has been awarded a compensation of AUD 70,000, or around Rp741 million, local media reported on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, as cited by Anadolu.
The Federal Court found that ABC breached the Fair Work Act by terminating her employment on the grounds of "political opinion opposing the Israeli military campaign in Gaza," according to ABC News.
Lattouf, a Lebanese-Australian journalist, was employed by ABC for five days in December 2023. However, she was fired just three days into the job after sharing an Instagram post by Human Rights Watch about the war in Gaza.
2. Indonesia Monitors Citizens in Gulf as Iran-Israel Conflict Escalates
Indonesia is keeping close watch on its citizens in the Gulf, where many Indonesians live and work, amid fears that the Iran-Israel conflict might spill over to other nations hosting U.S. military bases.
Andy Rachmianto, Director General of Protocol and Consular Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said Jakarta already anticipated the possibility of the conflict widening after Iran responded to U.S. strikes on three of its nuclear sites.
“Certainly, due to the ongoing escalation of the conflict, which is still very dynamic, we have predicted that as a response from Iran to the strike on its three nuclear facilities, Iran openly stated that the attack has consequences,” Andy told reporters at Terminal 3 of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport on Tuesday evening, 24 June 2025.
3. Trump Responds to Iran-Israel Ceasefire Deal
Why have Iran and Israel agreed to a ceasefire? Will the ceasefire last long? Will it lead to the end of the war? These questions were addressed by United States President Donald Trump in a press conference after the NATO summit in The Hague on Wednesday, June 25, 2025.
According to Trump, the conflict between Iran and Israel has ended and is unlikely to start again. He said both countries are exhausted.
Trump stated that the conflict has ended and that the U.S. is confident that both countries will not retaliate against each other. However, a few minutes later, Trump added that there is a possibility that the conflict will continue "someday," perhaps "soon."
