What's Inside Iran's 14-Point Proposal to the United States

3 hours ago 2

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Negotiations between Iran and the United States continue. Iran has submitted a counterproposal consisting of 14 points to the United States, urging for a permanent cessation of hostilities and the complete withdrawal of U.S. forces from the region.

As reported by Tasnim on May 2, 2026, cited ANTARA, the proposal was conveyed through an intermediary, Pakistan, in response to the U.S.'s nine-point proposal.

While Washington's proposal called for a two-month ceasefire, Tehran proposed a 30-day period to resolve core issues, insisting that the discussions should focus on ending the war rather than a temporary ceasefire. Iran's demands include the withdrawal of U.S. forces from its border areas, assurance of non-aggression, and economic measures such as lifting the naval blockade, unfreezing Iranian assets, easing sanctions, and compensatory payments.

The proposal also calls for the cessation of hostilities on various fronts, including Lebanon, and the establishment of a new governance mechanism for the Strait of Hormuz, a key shipping route for global oil delivery.

According to Tasnim's report, Iran is awaiting an official response from U.S. officials. The government media stated that Iran had submitted a new negotiation proposal through Pakistan on Tuesday, April 28, 2026.

On February 28, Israel and the United States launched a joint attack on Tehran and other cities in Iran. The attack resulted in the death of Iran's then-Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, along with several senior commanders and Iranian civilians.

Iran retaliated with a wave of missile and drone attacks targeting Israel and U.S. interests in the Middle East. A ceasefire came into effect on April 8, followed by negotiations between Iranian and U.S. delegations in Islamabad, which failed to produce an agreement.
