4 Things You Can't Take on Flights from the UK

1 day ago 6

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Airlines and travel destinations can determine restrictions on carry-on items during flights. However, the British government regulates several items that are not allowed in carry-on luggage. Airport authorities can confiscate these items.

On its official website, it is explained which items are allowed in hand luggage when boarding a flight in the UK. Different rules apply when carrying items for sale or temporarily exporting them for business reasons, such as sales samples, professional equipment, or musical instruments for performances.

"Airport security staff will not let anything through that they consider dangerous - even if it’s normally allowed in hand luggage," read an announcement on the GOV.UK website cited from Express UK.

Here are four items that should not be brought into the cabin baggage.

1. Liquids more than 100 milliliters

These liquids include water, liquid or semi-liquid food, such as soups, jams, honey, and syrups. This includes cosmetics and toiletries such as creams, lotions, oils, perfumes, mascara, lip gloss, toothpaste, hair gel, shower gel, and sprays such as shaving foam, hairspray, and spray deodorant, as well as similar consistency items.

Some UK airports have changed the rules for carrying liquids in cabin bags, so it is necessary to check the airport's website before traveling. However, countries outside the UK may have different regulations regarding carrying liquids. Check these rules with the airline and the relevant airports.

There are exceptions for carrying liquids up to two liters in all UK airports, if used for essential medical purposes, for special diet needs, or containing baby food or baby milk. If buying liquids at the airport or on the plane, they must be sealed in a security bag, as well as the receipt must be visible.

2. Lighters

Only one lighter may be carried onto the plane. Store it in a resealable plastic bag and keep it with you during the flight. After inspection, it is prohibited to store it in cabin baggage or hand luggage.

3. Food and powders

Food may be stored in checked baggage. However, if it is stored in a carry-on bag, it could obstruct the image of the X-ray machine. Thus, security officers will manually inspect the bag.

4. Frozen items

Frozen items may be brought into the cabin baggage. However, there are some exceptions, so look up the regulations regarding medications, medical equipment, dietary requirements, baby food, and baby milk before traveling.
