TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Attorney General's Office (AGO) has announced that personal belongings of Tom Lembong that were confiscated by the prosecutor will be returned today. "If I'm not mistaken, it might be returned soon today, because yesterday the most important thing was to release the person," said Head of the Information Center of the AGO, Anang Supriatna at the AGO complex on Monday, August 4, 2025.

Previously, the prosecutor had seized Tom Lembong's iPad and MacBook during a surprise inspection at the Salemba Detention Center, South Jakarta State Prosecutor's Office, on Monday, May 19, 2025.

After being detained at the Salemba branch of the South Jakarta Prosecutor's Office, he was then moved to the Cipinang Detention Center. On August 1, 2025, the former trade minister was released from prison due to an abolition or dismissal of prosecution by President Prabowo Subianto. The President's decision on the abrogation was made on August 1, 2025.

"Tonight, I breathe in the fresh air, I want to express my deeper gratitude to the Almighty God. I would like to thank President Prabowo Subianto," said Tom in front of the Cipinang Detention Center on Friday night, August 1, 2025.

Tom was released from the detention center at around 10:09 PM accompanied by his wife, Maria Franciska Wihardja, and former Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan.

Tom Lembong is the defendant in a case of sugar import corruption investigated by the Attorney General's Office. The man who served as the Deputy Captain of the Anies Baswedan - Muhaimin Iskandar Campaign Team was sentenced to 4 years and 6 months in prison by the judges of the Jakarta Corruption Court on July 18, 2025.

The panel of judges found Tom Lembong guilty of enriching 9 other corporations. However, in the judges' consideration, he was found to have not received any benefits from the policy of issuing import permits for sugar to the nine companies.

In this case, 11 people have been designated as suspects. Deputy Prosecutor General for Special Crimes at the AGO, Sutikno, stated that the legal process against other suspects will continue.

"Presidential Decree number 18 of 2025 is only for Mr. Thomas Trikasih Lembong's abolition, the others will continue the current legal process," said Sutikno at the Attorney General's Office on Friday, August 1, 2025.
