TEMPO.CO, East Lombok - The search and rescue operation for JDSP (27), a Brazilian national previously reported to have fallen on Mount Rinjani, has concluded with tragic news. The joint SAR team located the hiker dead on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at a depth of approximately 600 meters.
Muhamad Hariyadi, the head of the Mataram SAR Office, explained that one of the personnel successfully reached the hiker's position in a ravine at around 18:00 Central Indonesian Time (WITA) at the datum point. "After initial examination, no signs of life were found on the individual," Hariyadi said.
Confirmation of the fatality was reinforced after three additional personnel subsequently reached the site and verified the hiker's condition. The body was then immediately prepared for evacuation.
"Following this discovery, the SAR team at the last known position or the hiker's last location immediately prepared the evacuation system," he added.
Seven personnel established a flying camp or remained around the location, with three individuals positioned at the second anchor point (at a depth of 400 meters), and four others alongside the victim (at a depth of 600 meters).
The decision to postpone the full evacuation until morning was due to unfavorable weather conditions and severely limited visibility. The retrieval process resumed this morning, June 25, 2025, with plans to first lift the body.
"Then evacuated by stretcher along the climbing route towards the Sembalun Post," said the head of the Mataram SAR Office when met in Sembalun.
Subsequently, from the Sembalun Post, the body will be transported by helicopter to the West Nusa Tenggara Bhayangkara Regional Police Hospital (RS Bhayangkara Polda NTB) for further procedures. The entire team hopes that the evacuation process planned for this morning will proceed smoothly and safely as intended.
