Daichi Kamada Highlights Quality Gap Between Indonesian and Australian National Teams

1 day ago 9

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Japanese National Team player Daichi Kamada shares about his second goal against Indonesia in the resounding 6-0 victory over Indonesia at Suita Stadium, Osaka, on Tuesday, June 10, 2025. The goal was scored in the 45+5th minute of extra time. The player dribbled past defenders Mees Hilgers and Jay Idzes before deceiving goalkeeper Emil Audero Mulyadi with a shot.

Kamada's goal stemmed from Takefusa Kubo's success in sending an accurate breakthrough pass towards Indonesia's penalty box. The opposing defenders kept moving in a way that made it easy for him to dribble the ball, so he just needed to calmly put the ball in, said the player who won the FA Cup with Crystal Palace, as quoted from the Japanese media Soccer Digest on Wednesday, June 11, 2025.

Previously, Kamada scored the first goal with a header in the 15th minute. This performance was an extension of his excellent showing against Indonesia in their first match last November. At the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium in Jakarta, Kamada's action resulted in Japan's opening goal, an own goal by Justin Hubner. In total, the 28-year-old attacking midfielder has scored 11 goals and provided five assists in 42 appearances for the Blue Samurai.

This victory allowed Japan to end the 2026 World Cup qualifiers on a high note, as they had failed to win or score in the previous two matches. Japan even suffered its first defeat in the qualification rounds after being defeated by Australia with a score of 1-0. In that match, Kamada played the full 90 minutes as the team captain, replacing Wataru Endo, who was on the bench. Kamada said there is a difference in quality between Australia and Indonesia, and playing at home and away is completely different.

Quoted from the Japanese media Gekisaka, Kamada thinks that as his team plays more and more matches, we will encounter many problems and challenges. He hopes the players will unite as a team and overcome the challenges that arise.

In this match, coach Hajime Moriyasu made nine changes to the starting 11 from the loss against Australia. Junnosuke Suzuki and Shunsuke Mito were two new debutants who started the match, before Kodai Sano and Ryunosuke Sato followed suit in the second half. Kamada said that his team's goal is to play well regardless of who is playing.
